Dance Devotions

Dear Dancer,
Do you participate in outreach? In the Christian church an outreach can be some activity where the members in a ministry leave the four walls of the church to go somewhere to serve a specific community or group of people. You might find a homeless ministry who serve food and give out clothing at a soup kitchen. Or a prayer team who rent a booth at the community festival in order to give kids balloons and free face painting while offering to pray for the needs of the family or invite them to church. The word of God says that we’re called to have a compassionate heart like Christ’s so I pray you get involved in some form of outreach to shine the light of Jesus in this dark world. (Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Matthew 5:14)

Last night at Harvest Dance School we held an outreach in the form of a free showing of the animated movie, Leap. Yes, it was a dance movie but the “pointe” of the movie was not about the perfect pirouette. Rather, it was a lesson of encouragement that everyone has greatness in the inside and it must be brought forth through effort! Ministering the light of Jesus to the world is not limited to dance. I want to challenge you to pray and think, in addition to your dance what other skills and talents can you use for God? What are you passionate about? Then pray for the connection to an outreach or create your own. Holy Spirit will ignite a fire and creativity inside of us dancers not only in rehearsal or in a time of worship. Instead of thinking about the song selection, the right garments and the choreography you can find a new dance at an outreach without a single Grand Jeté! Dance the dance of hope with me as we do not forsake outreach for dance ministry.
May your life be filled with laughter and dance,
Rev. Lucie Poirier (below on a recent mission)
